Windows 10 has another issue and Microsoft may need to fix it quickly

Windows 10 users were urged last week to install a new update from Microsoft which fixes a serious issue with this operating system. The critical bug was spotted by America’s National Security Agency who said they discovered the vulnerability within Windows that could allow attackers to defeat trusted network connections and deliver executable code while appearing as legitimately trusted entities.

In a post on its website, the National Security Agency said: “NSA assesses the vulnerability to be severe and that sophisticated cyber actors will understand the underlying flaw very quickly.

“NSA recommends installing all January 2020 Patch Tuesday patches as soon as possible to effectively mitigate the vulnerability on all Windows 10.”
Microsoft has responded very quickly to the warning by pushing out an upgrade to its Windows 10 operating system but it seems one version is causing some users issues when attempting to install it.

KB4528760 is available now to download and includes numerous changes but a number of Windows fans have taken to Reddit, Twitter and even Microsoft’s own forums to complain of problems.

It seems when trying to get this upgrade on to certain devices some are seeing the error message, “There were problems installing some updates, but we’ll try again later. 2020-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4528760) – Error 0x800f0988. Troubleshooter, sfc, dism don’t fix error,”
There’s also been mentions of issues for those who have managed to install KB4528760 with one users saying: “This update has broken my audio.”

And another added: “This update caused my laptop to run at about a 20th of the speed it should and Chrome keeps not responding.”

It’s unclear how serious this install bug is or how many people are affected by it with Microsoft currently saying on its website that there are no known problems with KB4528760.

If you haven’t updated your PC yet then the advice seems pretty clear that you should attempt to download this patch as soon as possible.

For those that can’t get this upgrade safely loaded on to their PCs it’s a worrying time as that means their machines are not protected against the latest threats.
